Photograph was edited for publication purposes The Citizens' Councils of America, also known as Citizens' Councils or White Citizens' Councils, was founded in 1954. In direct conflict with civil rights activists, the group's chief goals were to oppose racial integration and support the segregation of public facilities. Photograph caption dated August 4, 1964 reads, "Pickets, most of them CORE members, march in front of the Los Angeles Breakfast Club in protest to a meeting of the Greater Los Angeles Citizens Council." The article partially reads, "Some 200 demonstrators appeared at the Los Angeles Breakfast Club, 3201 Los Feliz Blvd., to protest the meeting of the segregationist group which was organized a month ago in Pasadena.
