Photograph of a giant steam-shovel excavating the Colorado Aqueduct for the Metropolitan Water District, April 10, 1934. The base of the shovel is at right and a man can be sitting near a metal control room. A long metal arm extends from the base past the edge of the image at center. The bucket of the shovel is filled with dirt and can be seen at left over a deep trench. In the background, a tall range of mountains is visible.
