In: Scenes of Santa Clara Valley
The entrance of the three-storey house is located on the corner of the street and up a set of stairs; the first storey is covered on two sides by a porch; in front of the home two men stand; to the right of the entrance is parked a two-horsed carriage with a driver inside; on the left side of the house and coming up the street is a one-horse drawn carriage; on the right behind the carriage and on the property appears a structure with an open skeleton roof and behind that sticking up among the trees is another round-topped three-storey structure.
"20 Years after. Residence of Chas. W. Coe, Esq. Formerly the home of the late Gen. H. M. Naglee. Here Gen. Naglee entertained Gens. Howard, Logan, McClellan, Grant, Hancock and other distinguished guests. Residence formerly surrounded by Park of 40 Acres, having 7 flowing artesian wells, numerous fountains; trees and shrubs of endless variety, from almost every clime."
House was located in San Jose, corner of Santa Clara and Eleventh Street. Charles Willard Coe, one of two sons of Henry W. Coe. Family owned Coe Ranch in San Felipe Valley and Pine Ridge.
