Description
Looking down the valley at the powder mills, Santa Cruz County. Mills and few buildings localized around left corner of print. Flume running down towards the mills and river winding its way down the valley. Surrounded by wooded hills.
2010-0667.
Powder Works established in 1861 by San Francisco capitalists in answer to lack of black powder due to Civil War. Built along San Lorenzo River two and a half miles north of Santa Cruz. Operated between 1864 and 1914.
