Title supplied by cataloger. This accident occurred during the construction of the Mellon Bank Center, located at 400 S. Hope Street. Scores of firemen and construction workers try to move a temporary trailer-like office unit that was knocked down by a 200-foot crane, as they desperately look for anyone trapped underneath the rubble at a Bunker Hill construction site. The huge crane toppled into a 100-foot excavation, dragging down with it a wooden trailer that served as a temporary office. Russell Ellwood Nordstrom, 67, of Glendale, the construction engineer, and Frances Lemke, 59, of San Gabriel, the secretary for the Swinerton and Walberg Co. - the contractors for the 26-story building - were both killed. Photograph dated May 16, 1981.
