“Drawing room, Ladies mission house, Sialkot, Panjab, India”. Interior view showing an early 19th century drawing room with many different floral patterns and a number of framed photographs. The Sialkot Ladies mission was established by Miss Isabella Plumb (1861-1944) and Miss Mary E. Scorgie (fl.1890) under the authority of the Aberdeen Auxiliary of the Church of Scotland Women’s Association for Foreign Missions. The Women’s Associations main remit was the education of women in India and involved setting up girls’ schools and teaching in zenanas. It also included medical work. Miss Plumb would spend 41 years working with the women of India.
