Professor J. S. Diller of the U. S. Geological Survey first visited the Mount Lassen region in 1883 and continuted studies of this area for the next 40 years.
Mud pot and small mud cone made by overflow not by driblets. See floor of mud on top. West Side of Tastasus Lake. Older little cone of stiff mud flow on right. [written in Diller's hand]
