Description
A large crowd of people attend a campaign rally in support of presidential candidate Ángel Aníbal Guevara and his running mate Ramiro Ponce Monroy. Many in the crowd are holding banners in support of them. In the background of the image there is a large banner on a wall that reads, "Peace, Progress, and Wellness for all Guatemalans." On March 8, 1982 Guevara won the presidential election although electoral fraud was claimed by other parties. A military coup prevented Guevara from assuming power and installed a three-man junta headed by General Efraín Ríos Montt.
