Description
Master Mason's apron. Litho on silk. Two columns surmounted by figures representing Faith and Hope frame the scene. Charity cares for her three children next to a field of lillies below left and on the below right is a workman's table. Masonic symbols decorate the base of each pillar. In the center is a rare depiction of the square and compasses with a globe in the center. Arced above the pillars and sun and moon is a famous line from John 1:5, "The Light shineth in the darkness, and the darkness comprehendeth it not." The tableu resembles an arrangement that suggests a possible European origin, or an artist that pre-dated (or otherwise uninifluenced by) Jeremy Ladd Cross.
