After he led the University of Kansas to the NCAA title in 1988, Danny Manning was picked first in the NBA draft. He was expected to bring glory to the Clippers, who moved from San Diego to L.A. in 1984, but he suffered a devastating knee injury during his rookie year. And while Manning helped the Clippers make the playoffs, the franchise never did escape the shadow of the Lakers. Photograph dated October 7, 1989.
