Microfilm of a typescript of Hannah Hood Hill Romney's autobiography, written in 1922. The typescript was made from the original by Jasmine Romney Edmunds in 1936. In the autobiography, Hannah covers her husband's mission to England (which began about a year after their marriage), her accompanying him to meetings as home missionaries , their decision to enter into polygamy and her relationships with Miles' other wives, their experiences in St. George and St. Johns, the births of her children and notes on their various life events, her journey to Mexico and her life in Juarez, and her subsequent travels throughout California, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. The autobiography (frames 22-41) is on the same reel as MSS MFILM 146 and MSS MFILM 148. All inquiries about this item should be directed to the H. Hannah Hood Hill Romney (1842-1929) was born in Toronto. Her family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was an infant and moved to Nauvoo in November 1842. They later went on to Winter Quarters, where Hannah's mother died in 1847. Her father went ahead to Utah, and Hannah joined him there in 1849. She married Miles Park Romney in 1862. In 1867 the Romneys moved to St. George, where Hannah was president of the Relief Society. In 1881 they were called to St. Johns, Arizona, and in 1885 Miles fled to Mexico to avoid polygamy charges. Hannah remained in St. Johns until joining Miles in Mexico in 1886. She served as children's Primary President and ran a farm in Casa Grandes. She returned to Utah for a year in 1906, and later spent time in California and elsewhere throughout the Southwest. Hannah died in Colonia Juarez in 1929.
