Photograph was edited for publication purposes Frank A. Miller began the Mission Inn as a small adobe12-room guest house in 1876. The Mission Revival hotel complex now covers an entire city block and three acres of grounds including courts, patios, terraces, and gardens. It has been dedicated as California Historic Landmark # 761 and was added to the list of National Historic Landmarks on May 5, 1977. Photograph caption dated November 29, 1962 reads, "Riverside Mission Inn's chapel tower rises in background."
