Two photos are glued together to form one picture for publication. Photograph caption dated July 31, 1962 reads "The water polo players illustrated above are just part of the 'comeback' that is taking place in the Southland. In the first photo, Northridge prepares to pass, while the opponent closes in; in the second photo, Northridge finds itself on the defense, trying to stop the opposition from passing the ball into a scoring position. In the third photo (not pictured), the players scramble for the ball. Good co-ordination, plenty of swimming ability and strength, in addition to some of the basic skills of basketball, hockey and soccer, are necessary. The Los Angeles City Recreation and Parks Department is sponsoring an All-City Swimming and Waterpolo Championships Meets at the Swim Stadium Aug. 18. The group illustrated is Northridge's water polo club practicing for the finals. Coaches have found that the sport is an excellent conditioner for competitive swimmers and the sport has undergone a comeback in recent months."
