Title supplied by cataloger. Photographer's caption reads, "At age five, Trudy Egan began studying cello at the Hartford Conservatory. At fifteen, she finished building her first string instrument, a treble viol. She completed a four-year program in violin-making at one of the three U.S. schools that teach it, worked in several respected shops, and finally opened a Hollywood violin shop with her husband in 1997. Some of the finest Cremona violins come through her place for repair and conservation including Stradivari. Equally prominent in the workshop, however, is a bisected Chinese-made violin. Chinese string instruments look good, are priced to sell, and are flooding the market. In stone-faced detail, Trudy used the sawed-off violin to illustrate how the Chinese violins are shoddy shams."
