Shades of L.A. is an archive of photographs representing the contemporary and historic diversity of families in Los Angeles. Images were chosen from family albums and include daily life, social organizations, work, personal and holiday celebrations, and migration and immigration activities. Title supplied by cataloger.; Image is a reproduction. Sandra Brauner's family immigrated around 1901 from Russia (both sides) in search of a better life. Her husband was born in New York, while she was born in Los Angeles at St. Vincent's Hospital. She lived in Israel from 1955-1976. When she finished school, she went to Israel as a tourist in 1954 and met her husband in Negev, Israel. They lived there for 20 years and had children there, of whom hold dual citizenships. She came back to Los Angeles in 1976 and lived in South Central, Eagle Rock, Beverlywood, the Valley, and Antelope Valley. Sandra and her brother, Don, play in toy cars in their backyard on Shenendoah Street in Beverlywood, in Los Angeles.
