Image of an advertisement for the Sylvic Gas Light patented by B. Franklin Coston of Washington, D.C.; central image of a "gas light generator" with six vignettes surrounding it illustrating various venues the light can be used; decorative border made up of gas light candelabra.
Single-color print. Date supplied by cataloger based on printer and patentee history; B. Franklin Coston is listed in Washington, D.C. directories starting in 1884, and C.B. Graham printed until 1890. "A. DeVaudricourt, del."--text, bottom left margin. "C.B. Graham's Lithy. D.C."--text, bottom right margin. "For hotels, lighthouses, steam boats, cottages, factories, churches."--text, captions of vignettes in border. "B. Franklin Coston, patentee, Washington City, D.C. N.B. One gas-burner giving the light of sixteen sperm candles costs one cent for three hours."--text, bottom center margin.
