Photograph article dated January 13, 1959 partially reads, "Pioneering in space age functioning by tracking the Army's latest moon probe this past month continues for Collins Radio Co. and its Western Division at Burbank the exploratory and innovation work it has done in communications since in 1934 the firm was commissioned to build most of the communications equipment for the Byrd Antarctic expedition. The latest award of a $2,000,000 contract to the company for a high density microwave data transmission system to connect misile [sic] control centers at Point Mugu, Point Arguello and San Nicolas Island is but part of the Western Division's $10,000,000-plus backlog." Pictured is Mel Doelz, manager of Collins Radio Co. and principal inventor of the Kineplex, high speed data system.
