At the Long Beach Airport, John Lauber (left of center in tie) of the National Transportation Safety Board examines the cockpit area of the Piper PA-28-181 Archer that collided in mid-air with Aerome´xico Flight 498, a DC-9, over Cerritos. The collision killed 67 people aboard both aircraft and 15 people on the ground. Photograph dated August 31, 1986.
