Description
Image of an eye-level landscape view looking up from the Genesee River in Wyoming County and Livingston County, New York, towards a railroad train crossing the wooden trestle Portage Bridge above, with forested and rocky hillsides, the waterfall below, and visitors on the rock and grass river banks.
Probable date based on bridge and printer histories; the Portage Bridge was built in 1852. "Painted from Nature by J. Stilson"--text, bottom left margin. "Lith. of Compton & Co. Buffalo"--text, bottom right margin. "The Bridge is 800 feet long / 234 feet high / It contains 1,602,000 feet Timber ; 108,862 lbs. Iron."--text, bottom left margin. "S. Seymour --- Supr. / Lauman, Rockafellow & / Moore. Contractors"--text, bottom right margin.
