Mrs. Gladys Towles Root, pretty Los Angeles attorney and one of the first women attorneys to conduct the defense battle at a California murder trial, on June 6, 1932, defended Moses Cabansag, Filipino, at his Pasadena trial on murder charges in the knifing of Barnardo Asistn. She delivered an eloquent plea for Cabansag. The jury found him guilty of manslaughter.
