Description
Plates in: California aeronautics photograph album : Dole Race and others, pg. 16. Portrait of Maitland and Hegenberger in rotunda of City Hall in uniform and laurel wreaths. 2009-0664. Maitland and Hegenberger flew the first flight from Oakland and Honolulu. Took off from Oakland on June 28th, landed at Wheeler Field Hawaii June 29th. Flew U.S. Army Fokker C2-3 Bird of Paradise, a tri-motor Fokker monoplane. Upon return, San Francisco held victory celebration ending at City Hall where two awarded gold medals.
