Louisa M. Wever was born in Millhousen, France in 1838. Arrived in California in 1852 upon marrying Martin Allhoff. Allhoffs owned winery and distillery, dealer in wines and brandy, ran the Sierra Nevada Hotel in Coloma. Upon death of husband, married Robert Chalmers, who built Coloma Vineyard House. Married third husband, Thomas Hardie, moved to San Jose where had fruit farm. Died in 1913.
