Description
"Baziya. Kraal Hochzeit. Die Kuchenprozession. Lob- und Preislieder werden auf Braut und Bräutigam gesungen. Der Weggang der Braut wird beteuert von der Person, die im Vordergrund sitzt. Der Bräutigam wird derb beschimpft, daß er die Braut fortnimmt" ("Baziya. Kraal wedding. The cake procession. Hymns and praise songs are sung for the bride and the bridegroom. The departure of the bride is assured from the person, who is sitting in the foreground. The bridegroom is roughly affronted that he is taking the bride away"). A crowd of people. In the foreground some young women in dresses, carrying plates with decorated cake on it. One is holding a stick. On the right side of the picture two men in suits and with sticks in their hands. One is holding a hat in his hand, the other one a sheet of paper. In front of the crowd a person sitting on the floor, wrapped in a blanket. In the background other people and a hill.
Wilhelm Friedrich Karl Blohm, born in 1884 in Keffenbrinck (Germany), was a carpenter. In 1911 he married Marie Bürger. He started his missionary work in 1911 in Unyamwezi (East Africa). After being imprisoned by the Belgians from 1916 till 1917 he returned to Germany. From 1922 till 1945 he worked as a missionary in Baziya (South Africa). He died in Baziya in 1945.
