Description
This 1946 photograph shows rice processing facilities along the west bank of the Sacramento River, just off of River Road. The large structure to the right of the water tower are the rice mill and warehouse of the Rice Growers Association of California, while to the left are the mill and warehouse of the Capitol Rice Mills. It was here, by mid-century, that over 70 percent of California's rice was milled and distributed. One-third of that amount went to Puerto Rico.
