Description
The venerable Breuner's furniture store is shown at 604 K St. in 1945. After sailing around Cape Horn in the early 1850s, John Breuner started his business in 1856 and it stayed in operation for more than 120 years. Bruener's was responsible for building the California State Legislature's chamber desks in 1868, which continued to be in use through 1962. "Everything for the House" was the firm's slogan until its bankruptcy and eventual closure in 2004. Streetcar tracks running down K Street are visible in the foreground.
