Two Mayan women, one of them with a baby on her back, and two girls collect water from a river near the refugee camp of Ixcán, Chiapas. In May 1984 refugees from the Chajul settlement fled and hid in the Lacandón jungle when Mexican newspapers headlined that the Minister of the Interior, Manuel Bartlett Díaz, decided to relocate the approximately 46,000 Guatemalans from Chiapas to Campechgle. Dos mujeres mayas, una de ellas con un bebé en la espalda, y dos niñas recogen agua de un río en el campamento de refugiados de Ixcán, Chiapas. Cuando en mayo de 1984, los periódicos mexicanos reportaban que el secretario de gobernación, Manuel Bartlett Díaz, decidió reubicar a los aproximadamente 46,000 guatemaltecos de Chiapas a Campeche, los refugiados del asentamiento de Chajul huyeron y se escondieron en la Selva Lacandona.
