Photograph article dated June 21, 1956 reads, "Mrs. Patrick Moran, 53, mother of three children and a grandmother five times, is San Fernando's new director of civilian defense. Taking over the post vacated by William Odett, retired newspaper publisher, Mrs. Moran already is busy setting up details for the nationwide alert on July 20 to 26. One of her first jobs is a meeting with Col. Melville Stark, assistant civil defense coordinator for the City of Los Angeles, to discuss plans for the July alert. Born in Greenville, Miss., Mrs. Moran resided in New Orleans and Chicago and came to California in 1938. She has taken an active part in civic problems, civilian defense and the Red Cross. Her husband is a general contractor and their two daughters are married. Their son, Barton, 18, is a student.
