Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1889-1989 The ultimate hustler, Bobby Riggs, in the second phase of his storied career. From humble days at Franklin High, the crafty Riggs won Wimbledon and the U.S. Nationals before turning pro. In the early 1970s, as a self-professed "male chauvinist," he challenged the top women players: Margaret Smith Court, whom he defeated, and Billie Jean King, who downed Riggs in the "Battle of the Sexes" spectacle at Houston's Astrodome. He died in 1995.
