Demonstrators hold signs that read, "Marriage ban divides families", "Love is love", "Hate is not a family value", "Love does not discriminate", "Wanted, a son in law", " We want equa[l] righ[ts] not speci[al] rights", and "Marriage is a family value". Reverend Vaughn Beckman is standing at the far right in the front row. He is wearing dark clothing and a collar. "The Council of Churches of Santa Clara County was founded in the spring of 1942. In 1999, the Council boasted a membership of 250 churches and religious organizations throughout California. There are 32 churches in Northern California. And in June of 1997 Vaughn Beckman, an openly gay man, was chosen to be the organization's executive director.."
