Description
This circa-1930 photograph shows five polo players on their horses. Starting in 1930, a series of Sunday polo matches took place between teams from the Capital City and others throughout the state. The first, set in April 1940, pitted the Sacramento Riding Club against the Presidio's Battery D of the 143rd Field Artillery, California National Guard, at the National Guard Polo Field in the Del Paso district of Sacramento County. The Presidio won both matches, 11-4 and 11-9.
