Description
1989-1291. In: [Scenes of Sacramento] [manuscript] / Eugene Walter Hepting. [Sacramento, Calif. : E. Hepting, 1938?], Vol. C, leaf 38. Focus is a large tomb with a tall obelisk atop a pedestal; mid-way up the obelisk is a band with the initials "N.S.G.W." on it; between the pedestal and the initials band is a bronze relief portrait head; below on a step is a bronze bear, facing the left; information is written on the pedestal; behind the tomb are a couple of leafless trees and more low grave stones. Walter Hepting was born in Sacramento (father was from Switzerland, mother from Germany). Worked for the State Treasurer's Office. Was amateur historian, collected old photographs and images of Sacramento. "A.M. Winn...Born, April 27th, 1810.Died, Aug. 26th, 1883. First Mayor of 'Sacramento City', under the old charter in 1849. First president of 'Sacramento City Odd Fellows Association in 1849. 'Founder of the Native Sons of The GoldenWest.N.S.G.W...in 1875."
