Photograph caption dated April 13, 1931 reads "The Los Angeles district, California Federation of Women's Clubs, today opened its thirtieth annual convention at Long Beach. Some of the leading figures at the convention are shown above. Left to right, Mrs. Grace Y. Hudson, only candidate for vice president; Mrs. Charles S. McKelvey, the only candidate for president; Mrs. Howard U. Sherwood, retiring president; Mrs. Daniel J. Baptiste, retiring president of the Ventura county federation, and Mrs. John Thille, incoming president of the Ventura county federation."
