Description
Photograph article dated August 28, 1962 partially reads, "Camp Max Straus, nestled in the Verdugo Mountains foothills of Glendale, looks the same as any boy's summer camp - yet it's different. Though horseback riding, arts and crafts, nature study, swimming and other recreational activities are offered, the emphasis is not on recreational needs, but on the campers' real needs - space, time and love. Operated by the Jewish Big Brothers Association, a Community Chest agency, the camp is the only one west of the Mississippi which accepts boys with emotional and mild physical disabilities."; See image #00124313 for additional photo in this series.
