Photograph was edited for publication purposes This Chevrolet assembly plant opened in 1947 and produced the Chevrolet Corvair, Chevrolet Nova, Chevrolet Camaro, Chevrolet full-size models and the Pontiac Firebird. The plant was closed in 1992 after the production of Camaro and Firebird vehicles was moved to Sainte-The´re`se Assembly in Quebec. In 1998, the facility was razed and replaced with a large retail and industrial complex, known as The Plant. GM continues to operate a car-testing facility nearby. Photograph caption dated February 24,1958 reads, "Air jacks which look like giant-size 'C' clamps compress coil springs in front-end suspension system while frame moves slowly on Van Nuys plant production."; See images #00114122 through #00114126 for all photos in this series, under the main caption, "Off this assembly line comes the Chevrolet."
