Photograph caption circa 1958 reads, "Puzzled over simple pancake recipe, Darlene, unlike many other girl-next-door-type starlets, admits she is completely lost in the kitchen. 'I'm not in the least domestic,' she laughed, adding 'As a cook, I'd make a good plumber, and when I'm ironing, I mangle handkerchiefs! But I can wash dishes.'" Darlene is Darlene Tompkins, 17, of Pacoima who holds the title of Junior Miss Van Nuys. See images 00154333 through 00154336 for all photos in this series.
