Photograph caption dated February 23, 1979 reads, "Officer William Braden fills out police report at scene of yesterday's fatal plane crash near Long Beach Airport. Authorities said a light plane lost power on takeoff and crashed into a building. The plane's student pilot, U.S. Marine Capt. Mark Brennan, 27, was killed. Flight instructor Thomas Deal, 60, of Garden Grove, is reportedly in critical condition with burns over 80 percent of his body."
