Description
The photo caption printed in the Sacramento Bee on June 20, 1962 states: "Princess Ker-Newau, the last full blooded member of the Yurok Indian tribe of the lower Klamath River, points to members of her family in a picture in the Indian Museum at Sutters Fort. With her are State Senator Albert S. Rodda of Sacramento County and Princess So-Meson or Mrs. Lowana Brantner. The tribal costume worn by Princess Ker-Newau weighs 40 pounds and is 500 years old. That of Princess So-Meson is 125 years old. The picture on the wall is believed to have been taken in the 1870s."
