Description
Written on recto: "circa 1980 Yes on A & B defeated." Authored by Art Agnos (D-San Francisco), AB-1 passed the California State Senate 22-16 on February 16, 1980. Governor Deukmejian vetoed this legislation that year. The legislation was sent forward again only to be vetoed by Deukmejian in 1984. See Ted Sahl, “Closet to Community," (2000), pp.93-94, 154-155.
Parade float bearing words "Liberty and Justice for whom" and "San Jose" carries six unidentified people on crucifixes in protest of the defeat of Proposition AB-1, proposed legislation banning employment discrimination based on sexual orientation. Parade watchers clap and cheer in background.
