Eight years later, at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, he won gold in both the platform and springboard events, becoming the first man in 56 years to do so. He repeated the feat at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. In 1994, Louganis publicly acknowledged his homosexuality, adding his name to the short list of prominent gay athletes.
