Photograph article dated April 1, 1963 partially reads, "If they had lights at Valley State College's baseball field the Matadors and Los Angeles State might still be playing today. The two CCAA rivals fought through two 10-inning games on Saturday, the first one won by the Diablos, 2-1, and the second ending in a 1-1 tie that was called by darkness. Oddly enough errors decided the first game, giving L.A. State two unearned runs and an error allowed the Diablos to tie the second one." Photograph caption reads, "Valley State's Don Flanagan beats throw back to first - Los Angeles State's first baseman, Wayne King, just misses pick-off."
