Description
Shows buildings, forested hillside, San Lorenzo River, residence atop hill.
2010-1181.
Powder Works established in 1861 by San Francisco capitalists in answer to lack of black powder due to Civil War. Built along San Lorenzo River two and a half miles north of Santa Cruz. Second superintendent, Bernard Peyton, built mansion on hilltop in modern Italian style.
