A film strike takes place outside the Bronson Gate to Paramount Pictures studio, May 5, 1937. In 1937 seventy-five set decorators broke away from the IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and Moving Picture Machine Operators of the United States and Canada) to form their own association, the Society of Motion Picture Interior Decorators (SMPID) and negotated an independent contract with the producers. In 1943 they would affiliate with the CSU Local 1421.
