Description
The photo caption published in the Sacramento Bee on August 10, 1965 states: "A World War II B-17 bomber, now a peacetime air tanker, dropped chemicals yesterday on a fire which threatened the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Whyte near Oroville. Crews from the California Division of Forestry and El Medio Fire Department fought the blaze on the ground and helped save the main house. Several sheds were burned but the firemen kept the flames from spreading to the nearby mountain."
