Description
An unidentified assistant (left) leans his back against a wooden table and instructs survival school students (L-R), Jack Madeley, Marilyn Chandler, Joel Turner, Ron Venn, and Allen Mons about first aid techniques. The 160-acre camp, better known as the Starlight Training Center in Liberal, Missouri, was owned by Harry Claflin, a former U.S. Marine in Vietnam. The students are U.S. civilians with different backgrounds and professions who paid money in exchange for survivalist training. Claflin studied the tactics, troop proficiency, and military effectiveness of foreign countries like those in Central America where he trained Guatemalan, Nicaraguan, and Salvadoran special forces. All his assistants have law enforcement or military backgrounds as well.
