Description
Devyani Saltzman discusses her book, “Shooting Water.” She begins by explaining that the challenge of writing this memoir was balancing three things: the making of the film “Water,” the politics behind making the film, and her personal journey that stemmed from her parents’ divorce. She explains that when her parents divorced she chose to live with her father and since that decision she has struggled to reconnect with her mother. Saltzman discusses the controversy behind making the film “Water” and the film’s plot that deals with the Hindu religion’s treatment of widows in the 1930s. She goes on to share the research she did into the film’s subject matter and her own education at Oxford in Sociology and Anthropology. Later in the interview she reads aloud from her work and shows a clip from the film.
