Photograph of an exterior view of the Shell Oil Company, showing spherical tanks, ca.1940. An older man wearing a hat stands on a tall staircase which winds to the platform at the top of the massive spherical tank on the left. The tank is supported by thick metal beams which extend to a concrete platform below. Identical tanks fill the yard and are divided by the fenced walkways which lie between them. Lamps hang from tall, thin poles along the walkways and one on the right bears a sign which reads "No Smoking".
