Description
The Valley to Vietnam series, produced by the Sacramento Public Library, traces the arc of experience of our local Vietnam veterans. Steve Reed experienced an active youth in Fair Oaks and along the recreational wonderland that is the American River. After graduation from Bella Vista High School and a short stint at Sacramento State, Reed opted for the military and the 4th Infantry Division, based in Vietnam's Central Highlands at Pleiku. His time with the 4th ID also meant time as a member of a Long Rang Reconnaissance Patrol (LRRP) that braved the darkness and danger of II Corps. After leaving Vietnam, Reed found a satisfying career in education and law enforcement, but thinks about his Vietnam experience every day.
