“SR Mary Kamerzel.” Portrait of a nurse holding out a stick on which sits a chameleon. Sister Mary Jane Kamerzel was an American nurse who had served with the American Red Cross in the Pacific Region. She arrived at Chogoria in July 1950 and was the first American member of staff and stayed for about five years. ❧ The image is from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the period from 1928-1961 at the Chogoria mission which was established in 1922.
