Description
Photograph of a large group spectators at the Hopi Indian village of Walpai for the Snake Dance, ca.1900-1901. They are watching the grabbing of the snakes from the Kisi. Most of the spectators are Indians but there are some white men in the foreground. They all sit or stand upon rocks on a steep slope, looking down at the elaborately costumed Hopi priests.
