Description
Photograph of Wattles Estate garden at 1824 North Curson Avenue in Hollywood, California, 1926. A collection of tiered steps featuring arabesque relief railings is lined to either side by topiary shrubs, hedges and tall trees, as well as several palms. The gardens were open to the public since the completion of Mr. Gurdon W. Wattles' mansion, designed by prominent Los Angeles architects, Myron Hunt and Elmer Gray. The garden itself was formulated by Mr. Wattles and his head gardener, Alexander Urquhart who worked for Wattles from 1910 to 1930, from ideas gleaned from trips to Mexico and Japan.
